⚖️ A striking sculptural quartet, this 1920s solid-glass weight set transforms early laboratory tools into refined decorative objects. Each piece features raised serif metric markings — nominal identifiers rather than literal mass values — with softly irregular hand-formed bases that reveal its artisanal scientific origins. The clarity, proportion, and subtle character variations make this an elegant grouping for apothecary styling, bookshelf displays, or curated still-life arrangements.
In good vintage/used condition. Please see all of the photos. ⚖️
⌛History Behind The Piece⌛
Solid glass laboratory weights were produced in Europe and Canada from the 1920s through the 1930s for classroom demonstration and apothecary training, offering a corrosion-proof alternative to brass while visually representing standardized metric forms. Their hand-finished pontil bases, seed bubbles, and raised typeface reflect the craftsmanship of early scientific glassmakers before mechanized moulding became the norm. Though intended as teaching aids rather than calibrated masses, these weights have become prized for their minimalist silhouette and historical resonance within scientific and design circles
