✨A graceful burst of amber elegance. This striking mid-century Chalet free-form art glass vase captures the drama and sophistication of 1960s Canadian design. Hand-blown in a rich, cased amber that melts into a clear, controlled-flow base, its twisted body and spiked rim invite the eye to travel along its fluid contours. Measuring 11.75 inches, it makes a commanding statement as a standalone art object or as a luminous vessel for blooms, branches, or seasonal arrangements.
With its sculptural form and weighty presence, this vase embodies the artistry that made Chalet a sought-after name among collectors of mid-century modern glass. Its warm amber tone glows in natural light, while the organic asymmetry gives it the visual intrigue of a one-of-a-kind piece. Whether styled in a minimalist setting or layered into an eclectic display, it brings both history and high design into the home.
Note: Chalet only began acid-etching their oval “Chalet” script logo on the base of select pieces in the early 1970s. As a late-1960s example, this vase predates that practice and was originally identified by a now-absent foil label—entirely typical for authentic Chalet glass of this period.
Item is in good vintage/used condition. There are light surface scratches on the bottom. Please see all of the photos. ✨
History Behind The Piece⌛
Born as Les Industries de Verre et Miroirs in 1958 (renamed Murano Glass in 1960), the studio relocated from Montreal to Cornwall, Ontario in 1962 after a devastating fire, thanks to federal incentives. Rebranded as Chalet Artistic Glass, the company—helmed by Venetian immigrants Angelo and Luigi Tedesco and Sergio Pagnin—pioneered Canada’s free‑form glass movement, blending Murano-inspired techniques with modern design until its closure in 1975.
