⌛ History Behind The Piece⌛ Introduced at the 1939 New York World’s Fair by View‑Master (then manufactured by Sawyer’s Inc. of Portland, Oregon), this 3-D stereoscopic system made use of tiny Kodachrome transparencies mounted on cardboard “reels” and transformed the postcard souvenir market. By the 1950s, themed story-packets such as these had become a hallmark of children’s entertainment, and Sawyer’s was acquired by GAF Corporation in 1966 as the format continued to evolve.
